Ottawa Black Creatives Hub Performing Arts Showcase

This February, we invite you to celebrate Black History Month with us by joining us at the Ottawa Black Creatives Hub’s Performing Arts Showcase – an art show featuring some of Ottawa best talent. This show will include performances by musical artists, dancers, poets and more.

This show was made possible with the support of the Ottawa Arts Council and  Algonquin Students’ Association.

This event is open to all. It is not a closed space for black attendees.

The Ottawa Black Creatives Hub's Performing Arts Showcase

Tickets:

Adult ticket (25 +) - 25$

Youth ticket (12 to 25) - 20$

Kids - Tickets for under 12 are free. There is no need to register their ticket online. When you arrive at the registration desk please let the staff know that you will be attending the show with children so they can get a stamp or proof of payment.

Free entry is offered to children under 12; however, it is compulsory for them to obtain a ticket to attend since a seat needs to be reserved. The registration is accessible at the Box Office during open hours. 

Please note that 

  • There will be tickets sold at the door in limited quantity. The ticket price at the door is the same as the ticket price online. You can pay cash, debit or credit. 

  • Unlike other Hors Pair events, where we release 70% tickets online and keep 30% for the door, all of the tickets (100%) are being released at once. We are not reserving a percentage for the door. Meaning, if there are 50 tickets left on the day of the showcase, we can only sell 50 tickets at the ticket booth. There will be no additional tickets reserved at the door. We highly recommend purchasing your tickets online. Tickets at the door are not a guarantee. 

  • Tickets are non-transferable, meaning if you’ve purchased tickets under your name, they cannot be given and transferred to someone else. You must request a refund. The other person must purchase tickets on a separate order.

Location:The event will be held at the Algonquin Commons Theatre, inside the Algonquin College’s student commons. You can find the theatre by entering the Robert C. Gillett Student Commons building. There is parking available on site.

Media: There will be a limited number of media passes available.To reserve a pass please send Jenna, the Theatre Marketing Coordinator an email at tregwij@algonquincollege.com with subject line: ‘Media Pass - OBCH Showcase’. When emailing Jenna, please clarify if you need a media pass and/or a reviewer ticket. A media pass allows you to take photographs and a reviewer allows you to attend the show without taking pictures (For example, if you would like to write an article.) 

Food and beverages:

Light refreshments will be provided at the reception.

There are two vending machines and one water fountain located in the building. 

Marketplace Food Court (D Building) - Operating hours: Monday to Thursday: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Friday: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday to Sunday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Observatory (A Building) - Operating hours: Monday to Friday: 11am-7pm

Wolves Den (X Building/ARC) - Operating hours: Monday to Friday: 11am-10pm

Is this event only for black attendees?

No. This is event is open to all.

Can I purchase tickets at the door?

Yes. There will be tickets sold at the door in limited quantity. The ticket price at the door is the same of the ticket price online.  You can pay cash, debit or credit.

At what time can I purchase my ticket at the door?

You can purchase your ticket at the door on the day of the show (February 20th) starting at 5:00PM.

Patrons are welcomed to stop by at Box Office to purchase their tickets during the operating hours (2:30pm-6:30pm Monday to Friday) and they are also able to purchase at the event day. 

At what time can I enter the auditorium?

The doors of the auditorium open at 5:30PM.

Can I come to the show with my kids? How much is it for a kid under 12?

Crépu: Our DNA, a Black Hair Art Show

Join us on Sunday February 4th 2024 for an evening of art, networking, conversation and music.

Created by Hors Pair Social and The Moving Art Gallery, Crépu is an art show and meditation on black hair. This edition of Crépu is collaboration with Ingenium, the crown corporation that oversee three museums: the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, Canada Aviation and Space Museum and the Canada Science and Technology Museum.

This event is supported by the City of Ottawa, Youth Action Now, Cloré Beauty and Ingenium.

How does it work? Simple.

The first half of the night will be filled with performances by featured artists (there are different featured artists for each event). The second half will be open mic lineup, meaning anyone who wishes to perform will be able to do so. This event a closed space for creatives who are black or identify as black.

Due to presence of alcohol, this is a 19+ event.

Please note, the event is on the rooftop on there are quite a few stairs to get up (there is no other way to access the rooftop). If you have mobility issues and require help to get up to the rooftop, please let us know in advance and we will make proper arrangements.
